Ole Miss Football Preview Behind Enemy Lines: 5 Fast Facts About Texas A&M

Ole Miss (5-5, 2-4 SEC) hosts Texas A&M (6-4, 3-3 SEC) Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Here are five things to know about the Aggies...

1. They Are Coming Off A Dominant Win

Texas A&M, much like Ole Miss, had little trouble in whipping a non-conference foe on Saturday. The Aggies routed New Mexico, 55-14, scoring on the game's second play and cruising the rest of the way. A&M led 48-7 at the half and redshirt freshman quarterback Nick Starkel had passed for 416 yards and four touchdowns by halftime.

2. There Is Coaching Uncertainty In College Station

Again, much like at Ole Miss, there is uncertainty at Texas A&M surrounding the head coach. A&M coach Kevin Sumlin is rumored to want out of College Station and there is a contingency of Aggie fans and boosters who want him out. A university regent went forward earlier this year to say Sumlin needed to be fired. Athletic director Scott Woodard said back in the summer Sumlin had to win this year. The Aggies are now bowl eligible after beating New Mexico, but that's likely not the degree of winning that halts the winds of change from blowing, even though Sumlin became just the fifth coach to reach the 50-win mark at A&M on Saturday in the Aggies 28th straight non-conference victory at Kyle Field.

Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk is one of the most talented wide receivers in the nation. On the season Kirk owns 46 catches for 575 yards and six touchdowns. While those aren't A.J. Brown numbers, Kirk hasn't had the luxury of having Shea Patterson and Jordan Ta'amu throwing to him this season. Against New Mexico, Kirk caught four passes for 120 yards, one of which was a 60-yard TD strike. Where Kirk can really change a game is as a kickoff and punt returner. He has returned one each to the end zone this season, including a 90-yard punt return for six against New Mexico.

Outside of Kirk's 90-yard punt return, the Aggies struggled on special teams. A&M missed an extra-point and allowed New Mexico to return two kickoffs to the end zone. One of those, however, was called back on review.

Texas A&M had three wide receivers each catch for more than 100 yards in the Aggies' win over New Mexico: true freshman Roshaaud Paul (7-129), Jhamon Ausbon (7-105) and Kirk (4-120).
