Early analysis of draft-eligible Ole Miss Rebels

Here is a look at Ole Miss Rebels eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft and the early analysis of their stocks. We're using Walter Football's analysis as a basis...

In 2019 Season: Jones continued his role as the rather quiet and humble, yet effective, leader of the Ole Miss defense. He recorded 30 tackles, but so much of what he did in the defensive trenches never showed up in the stat column, as he was a disrupter who often demanded double teams. He also spent time in the opponents' backfields, recording 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and seven quarterback hurries. He also registered an interception.

Walter Football Says: For the NFL, Jones could be a heavy nose tackle who contributes somewhat in the pass rush.

In 2019 Season: Phillips finished as the Rebels' third-leading rusher as a senior, compiling 542 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 4.34 yards per carry. It was a definite production dip from his junior year when he averaged 6.07 yards per attempt, rushing for 928 yards and 12 scores. Part of that dip in production last season can be attributed to him sharing carries in the backfield with the dynamic true freshman duo of Jerrion Ealy and Snoop Conner, as well as quarterback John Rhys Plumlee soaking up a lot of running opportunities. Phillips was hindered by late-season ankle injuries during both of his seasons in Oxford.

Walter Football Says: Phillips is a short back who is very thick and strong and has some real power. He can flat out run over some tacklers with violence and shows a serious ability to pick up yards after contact. On top of his physicality, Phillips has a burst with quickness to the edge and speed to hit the hole before it closes. Phillips may not have the size to be a bell-cow back who is a true three-down starter in the NFL, but I know team sources who like him and think he could be a really good rotational back who offers a change of pace as shifty but strong back.

In 2019 Season: Givens was the bell cow on an Ole Miss offensive line that drastically improved as the season wore on. The Rebels finished ranked second in the SEC in rushing offense, running for more than 250 yards (251.25) per game. Walter Football rates him as the No. 25 offensive tackle in this year's draft pool.

Walter Football Says: Givens started at right tackle for Ole Miss for 2019. He had a slow start to the year after back surgery in the summer limited him in training camp, but he rounded into form over the course of the season. Givens could have medical red flags given his back injury.

In 2019 Season: Coatney started all 12 games for the Rebels last season, finishing sixth on the team with 46 tackles. His 46 stops were the most for any Rebel defensive lineman. He is rated as the No. 13 3-4 defensive end available in this year's draft pool by Walter Football. He is considered to be the No. 10 nose tackle in the field of draft-eligible players.

Walter Football Says: Coatney is a big run-stuffing nose tackle who is a good run defender for the Rebels.

In 2019 Season: The 6-3, 250-pound Sheppard registered 25 total tackles, including for TFLs and seven quarterback hurries. Rated as the No. 21 draft prospect at outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme. Is listed as the 28th best available in a traditional outside linebacker role.

Not all draft-eligible Rebels have analysis available at this time. Some others who have a chance to improve their stock through their performances at pro day and individual workouts include tight ends Jason Pellerin and Octavious Cooley, defensive backs Myles Hartsfield and Jalen Julius, inside linebacker Willie Hibbler and defensive tackle Austrian Robinson.
