OXFORD — Ole Miss coach Matt Luke will take the podium at the 2019 SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala., on Tuesday, and he'll be accompanied by three of his most prominent players.
The SEC announced that linebacker Mohamed Sanogo, offensive tackle Alex Givens and quarterback Matt Corral will be representing Ole Miss as the Rebels' three player representatives at SEC Media Days. All three players will be making their first appearances as spokesmen at the event, after the Rebels sent quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, center Sean Rawlings and defensive tackle Josiah Coatney last season.
A junior linebacker from Plano, Texas, Sanogo led the Rebels in tackles last season with 112. Sanogo finished the 2018 season with one sack, two forced fumbles and 6.5 tackles for loss. He recorded double-digit tackles in four of Ole Miss' last five games, including season-highs of 16 against both Auburn and Texas A&M.
A senior who has started games in all three of his seasons at Ole Miss, including starting all 12 games a season ago, Givens is one of the veteran leaders on Ole Miss' offense. He will anchor an offensive line that loses three starters from a season ago and will do so as one of the more productive pass protectors in the SEC. Last season, Givens only allowed pressures on 2.9 percent of his pass blocking snaps.
Corral is expected to take over as Ole Miss' starting quarterback this season after playing in four games last season while taking a redshirt. In his limited action, Corral completed 16 of his 22 passes (72.7 percent) for 239 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
Ole Miss will be speaking on day two of the event, along with Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M. The Rebels will have plenty of topics to cover, coming off a 5-7 season which resulted in Ole Miss hiring five new assistant coaches, including new offensive and defensive coordinators. Ole Miss also signed a massive recruiting class, bringing 31 new players to campus including five-star running back Jerrion Ealy, a slew of four-star wide receivers to help replace the likes of A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf and DaMarkus Lodge and five junior college prospects who'll be expected to contribute early.
