TheOle Miss Spirit has learned that Kim Schuette is set to join the Rebel softball program as its new pitching coach, pending the finalization of the formal hiring process and paperwork which is expected to be done by Thursday or Friday. An official announcement from the university is forthcoming.
Schuette will replace the departed Ashley Chastain, who left Ole Miss to become the head coach at Charlotte on June 6.
Schuette leaves her position as the head coach at Eastern Illinois. She was the head coach at Purdue from 2014 until 2016 where she compiled a record of 85-81-1 with five wins over opponents ranked in the top 25.
Schuette pulled two different stints as the head coach at Eastern Illinois, having held the post for 12 seasons. Her first run lasted from 2006-2013 before she took the same position at Purdue.
Schuette will inherit a staff at Ole Miss that returns four of five pitchers from a 2019 team that won 41 games and finished its season in the Tucson Super Regional. The staff is led by rising senior lefty Molly Jacobsen, who earned second-team All-SEC honors last season.
Schuette coached Ohio Valley Conference pitchers of the year Amber May (2011) and Hanna Mennega (2013) at Eastern Illinois. She led Eastern Illinois to OVC championships in 2011 and 2013.
An official announcement from Ole Miss is expected either Thursday or Friday.
