Former Bama Pledge De'Rickey Wright Commits To Ole Miss

Ole Miss continued its scorching march through the month of June on Saturday, locking down a commitment from three-star athlete De'Rickey Wright.

Wright, who de-committed from Alabama a few days ago, was on the Ole Miss campus for an unofficial visit on Friday. He camped at Ole Miss earlier this month before breaking his commitment with the Crimson Tide.

The 6-4, 220-pounder out of Gadsden City (Ala.) High School is rated as the nation's No. 26 athlete by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite index. He is the No. 21 player in the state of Alabama's 2020 class.

"I really love the relationship I've got with the coaches at Ole Miss, and I really think Coach Luke is a great coach," said Wright following his recent visit to Ole Miss. Ole Miss also made an impression on Wright's mother.

"She loved it. She said it was probably her favorite trip she's been on. She had a blast up there," he said.

Ole Miss is recruiting the versatile Wright to play safety.

"First things first, I would like to thank my my heavenly father for allowing me with this opportunity and putting this decision in my heart and gut," Wright stated via his announcement on twitter. "I would also like to thank my mother for being a role model and telling me 'to go where it is best for you and no one else.' I would also like to than everyone that is in my circle for being there for me and for giving me great advice also. With that being said, I have decided to 1,000 percent commit to the University of Mississippi."

Wright is the 14th commitment for Ole Miss in the month of June. The Rebels' 2020 class now stands at 18 commitments. The group is rated 16th nationally in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.

Wright owns a 247Sports Composite score of 0.8884, making him the third highest-rated commitment in the class behinf four-star safety Eric Reed and four-star defensive tackle Josaih Hayes.

National analyst Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports recently offered this assessment of Wright: "Gadsden (Ala.) City four-star athlete De'Rickey Wright is very interesting. Who doesn’t love 6-foot-4, 220-pounds with an 86 inch wingspan and the feet of a safety. In this business you’re always scanning for upside and Wright has a ton. A hair slower than (Drew) Sanders but a tad quicker, they have similar profiles from an athleticism standpoint. He also had a dominant junior season including 10 interceptions, 20 touchdowns (eight on defense) playing quarterback, receiver, defensive back and linebacker. Thinking about what he can turn into going through Alabama’s strength program and then being developed as a player, easy to be incredibly intrigued with this prospect."
