In this article I will show the number of stars, five stars to 0-2 stars, that the different ranked teams had for each year covered in my five articles. I will include a table for the national champions, the No. 5, 10 and 15 ranked team and Mississippi State. I will also include a five-season average for each star category, from five stars to 0-2 stars.
The five national championship teams had an average of 10 five stars and 36 four stars per season.
Of the five national championship teams, Alabama had the highest number of five stars with 15 in 2015 and 17 in 2017. Clemson, who won the national championship in 2016 and 2018, had the lowest number of five stars with four in 2016. Ohio State had the second lowest with five in 2014. Alabama also had the two highest number of four stars with 42 in 2017 and 38 in 2015. Clemson had the two lowest with 30 in 2018 and 31 in 2016.
The five No. 5 ranked teams had an average of four five stars and 29 four stars per season.
Florida State had the highest number of five stars among the five No. 5 ranked teams with 12. The lowest was one by both Oklahoma and Notre Dame in 2015 and 2018. The highest number of four stars was 46 by Ohio State in 2017. The lowest number of four stars was 21 by Oklahoma in 2016.
The five No. 10 ranked teams had an average of one five star and 19 four stars.
The most five stars by a No. 10 ranked team was three by UCLA in 2014. Two No. 10 ranked teams had zero five stars, Iowa in 2015 and Washington State in 2018. The most four stars by a No. 10 ranked team was 37 by Michigan in 2016. The two lowest was one by Iowa in 2015 and Washington State in 2018.
The five No. 15 ranked teams had an average of one five star and 12 four stars.
The No. 15 ranked team with the most five stars was 2014 Clemson with three five stars. Three teams had the lowest number of five stars, 2015 North Carolina, 2016 Colorado and 2018 Syracuse, all with zero. 2014 Clemson also had the most four stars with 25. 2018 Syracuse once again came in last in the four star category with two. 2016 Colorado was close behind with three.
Mississippi State, during the five seasons, had an average of one five star and 13 four stars.
Mississippi State had one five star player all five seasons. As for the four stars, the most they had was 15 in 2016. Seasons 2015 and 2018 were close with 14 each season. The low number was nine in 2014.
When you look at the averages, Mississippi State obviously is right there with the No. 15 ranked teams with the same average number of five stars and one more four star. While Mississippi State is even with the No. 10 ranked teams when it comes to five star players, there is a large difference in four star players, with the No. 10 ranked teams averaging 19 per season compared to 13 by Mississippi State. To have a chance to be a consistent No. 10 ranked team based on four and five star players only, MSU would need to play six more four star players each season. Mississippi State, which is normally in the 25 range in the recruiting rankings, would need to move up to around 15th to get into that talent range.
