BONEYARD: Mississippi State Welcomes New Signees, MLB Dog Picks

Mississippi State announced on Tuesday that sixteen new Bulldogs to the summer school rolls and the active roster. With many of the State signees reporting over the weekend. the overwhelming majority of the 2019 class is accounted for with just four newcomers not on the Starkville campus.

The four players yet to report for class are offensive lineman Brandon Cunningham, defensive back Colin Duncan, running back Kareem Walker and graduate transfer Isaiah Zuber. Zuber's official signing declaration was also released by Mississippi State Tuesday bringing an end to a whirlwind courtship between the Bulldogs the former Kansas State star.

Listed among the new sixteen enrollees is transfer defensive tackle Allen Love. The former Louisville Cardinal is in town and attending courses, but his availability for the fall remains a matter of discussion. Love picked the Bulldogs weeks ago and will get to work with the current Bulldog roster with an eye on an NCAA hardship waiver that could clear that way for his participation this fall.

Another transfer making the move to Starkville is former Penn State quarterback Tommy Stevens. The former Indiana prep star made the move to Mississippi this weekend just in time to enjoy some college baseball action at Dudy Noble Field as Mississippi State won an NCAA regional.

Speaking of the Diamond Dawgs, three Mississippi State players heard their names called trough the first two days of the Major League Baseball draft. Ethan Small was a 1st round selection by the Milwaukee Brewers on day one. Tuesday brought the selections of Jake Mangum in the 4th round (New York Mets) and Colby White in the 6th round (Tampa Bay Rays).

Day three is upon us and we expect a few other Mississippi State players to be selected. As business picks up and the picks come more frequently, look for some talented State seniors to get the call as well as catcher Dustin Skelton. While Bulldog fans cheer for the selections of current players, they have been able to breath a sign of relief as it relates to the current recruiting class.

As we go to press it appears that the Diamond Dawgs will see the lion's share of those signees come to school and wear the M over S of the Maroon and White. There will be a lot of negotiations that take place over the course of the next few months, but the Bulldogs have to feel very good about where thing stand today. We may be signing a different song later this summer, but you have have to feel that Coach Chris Lemonis is walking around his office breathing a big sign of relief.
